Uses For Wood Ash

Hey spring lovers, we are merely 2 months away from seeing our little plants coming through the soil. Now is the time to collect that wood ash so it is ready to improve your soil in the spring. If you are a gardener, you know the benefits of wood ash. That gray powdery stuff you take from your fireplace is packed with nutrients such as calcium and potassium with smaller amounts of magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, and aluminum which your soil loves. Your plants thrive on all these good nutrients. Plants aren’t the only thing that may benefit from wood ash as there are other very creative practical uses.

In addition to adding the wood ash to your compost pile you can also make a wood ash tea. Not for you, hee hee, but for your plants. Get a large bucket and fill it with water. Add a large amount of wood ash to the bucket and soak it for about five days. When the time is up, drain the water out for a luscious tea your plants will love. You can use this to water the plants in your home or outside.
